Toronto FC Impressive in Win Over Galaxy
In a weather teasing afternoon at BMO Field in Toronto, the home side put out an inpressive effort to best the L.A. Galaxy 2-0.
With goals from rookie Julius James - making his first appearance of the season - and Jeff Cunningham, the Reds dominated the match and further extended their impressive stretch at home. The victory improves Toronto’s record at BMO Field to 4-0-2 this season, and continues their home unbeaten streak to 8 games - Toronto hasn’t lost at home since Sept. 22, 2007.
Although both teams were missing key players, Toronto dismissed suggestions that their bench guys couldn’t get the job done. Toronto FC outshot the Galaxy 12 - 4 with 6 being on net versus L.A.’s 1 on net.
The rain spit for the better part of the first half and then began to pour drops the size of golf balls, but the crowd never wavered and was louder than most games this season. The fans were rewarded with sunshine and warmth for the final 12 minutes of the match - the weather Gods of Toronto were pleased with the result and they made it known.
Toronto’s win provides 3 big points - moving Toronto into sole possession of third place in the East and overall league with 17 points (bearing other results tonight).
Toronto FC’s next home game is Saturday June 14th against Colorado.
