Virgin Festival Toronto returns to Toronto Island Park on September 6th and 7th.

Having commemorated their tenth anniversary with a year-plus run commencing with a double studio album hailed by the New York Times as “an unexpected magnum opus,” a sold out arena tour built on that first disc’s rock foundation followed by a toned down and intimate theater trek that highlighted the softer side showcased on that record’s second half and capped off by a headlining gig at London’s Hyde Park for a crowd of 85,000, the question looms larger than any in the Foo Fighters’ career to date: What do they do for an encore? The Virgin Festival has added The Kooks, Silversun Pickups, The Fratellis, Against Me!, MGMT and more to their line up. Virgin Festival Toronto will shake out on September 6th and 7th at Toronto Island Park. Tickets for all these events are on sale now.

Bloc Party Announces Toronto Dates | Virgin Festival Toronto

Virgin Festival Toronto has unleashed an outstanding line-up. This blog will continue to examine the solid bill, but one act that has generated huge buzz is Bloc Party.

Bloc Party are an English indie rock band, composed of Kele Okereke on vocals and rhythm guitar, Russell Lissack on lead guitar, Gordon Moakes on bass guitar and Matt Tong on the drums. The band formed in 1999 after Okereke and Lissack decided to form a band at the Reading Festival. They went through a variety of names, before settling on Bloc Party in 2003. Moakes joined the band after answering an advert in the magazine NME, and Tong was picked out from an audition.

Virgin Festival Toronto 2008 will take place at Toronto Island Park on September 6th to September 7th. Tickets are available.

Virgin Festival Calgary | Canadian Music Feast

The globally successful and popular Virgin Festival will rear it’s commercial head and try its hand in Calgary on the June 21 & 22 weekend.The lineup is quite strong: Stone Temple Pilots and The Tragically Hip will headline, but it is the supporting acts that are generating all the chatter.

Here is a snap shot of the meat and potatoes…

The Flaming Lips, City and Colour, Matthew Good, Stars, New Pornographers, Constantines, Face to Face, Attack in Black, The Dudes, Said the Whale, The Spades, The Whitsundays, Ten Second Epic and quite a few more.

One day passes go for $75 and weekend passes are $125. Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning.
