The show will go down on October 5th at the Sound Academy.

Beck is touring in support of his new album, the critically acclaimed Modern Guilt. The album contains 10 new songs, and with the exception of last year’s Grammy-nominated, digital-only single “Timebomb”, Modern Guilt is the first new material Beck has written since the prolific stretch that produced 2005’s platinum Guero and 2006’s universally acclaimed The Information.

Modern Guilt is a tightly assembled group of songs that range in lyrical tone from introspection and social commentary to off the cuff wordplay and lighthearted humour. Musically, the album’s tracks vacillate between economy and experimentation, hybrid and pop classicism, while consistently manifesting Beck and producer Danger Mouse’s shared interest in psych-rock, folk, electronic minimalism and orchestration.

MGMT….40 years after The Summer of Love (and 30 years after The Summer of Hate), MGMT is celebrating the grand re-opening of the third eye of the world with Oracular Spectacular, the duo’s much-anticipated first full-length album, an enigmatic and prophetic collection of hallucinatory sounds and hook-riddled pop tones for the new millennium. MGMT is: Andrew Vanwyngarden and Ben Goldwasser, two psychic pilgrims whose paths first intersected in the green pastures of Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, circa 2002. “We weren’t trying to start a band,” Ben remembers.

Tickets will be on sale here

Post from: Toronto Unplugged

Virgin Festival | The Kooks | The Fratellis | MGMT

Breaking Artists

Music Videos

Music in Toronto

Toronto Concerts

Against Me

MGMT

The Kooks

toronto

Virgin Festival

The Virgin Festival has added The Kooks, Silversun Pickups, The Fratellis, Against Me!, MGMT and more to their line up. The Ghost Busters theme song, performed ad nauseam. But whenever VanWyngarden or Goldwasser weren’t on a stage, the two wrote more-traditional songs together, with the aim of signing to a major label.

“We were this unknown band, but we talked a lot about selling out as soon as possible,” says VanWyngarden. Still, when Columbia Records came courting them last year, MGMT couldn’t bring themselves to take the process seriously. “We were really sarcastic when we met them,” VanWyngarden recalls. “They asked us for a list of dream producers, so we made one: Prince, Barack Obama, Nigel Godrich and ‘Not Sheryl Crow.’ ”

The band’s latest release, Oracular Spectacular has received pretty wild reviews. If you think the sound is a bit Flaming Lips-ish, it’s because Flaming Lips producer Dave Fridmann produced this offering from MGMT.

Good listen – enjoy.

Post from: Toronto Unplugged
