Spend Your Money on Shows | CD Sales Continue to Drop
I have always supported musicians with spending my money on their concerts - the ticket, often a t-shirt and occasionally an impulse buy of the album at the show. In this digital music age, I discover music online and for the music/bands that I really dig, I support them financially when they roll into town - often dragging friends with me.
Although CD’s now contain features that digital downloads do not (bonus tracks, video footage…etc), CD sales are still fading while touring and number of shows are up.
There was a great article in The New York Times today talking about this more in depth.

3 opinions for Spend Your Money on Shows | CD Sales Continue to Drop

I’m the same way… I’d much rather spend money on a live show than on an overpriced CD. But in my mind, that’s where real musicians flourish anyway, at the live show. Anybody can spit out a pitch-corrected over-produced album.

I’ll join that movement also. Although I just bought the latest by My Morning Jacket for $13 I tend to support bands in person… umm and lots of em! I’ve gone months and even over a year without spending money in a CD Store. Having a decent home theater I enjoy buying the odd Live Music DVD.

Ana…agreed…and it’s disappointing when you go to a show to hear tracks from an album you love only to find that the band can’t pull it off. Their great when their sound is produced to the point of sounding great, but you have to be able to back it up in front of a crowd.
Jeff…gotta love $13 CD’s. I remember when I was much younger and having to truly commit to a CD purchase because they would run $30.
