Soundtrack of the Day | Listen Here
There is a group of us in this Music Channel who decided to track the songs we listened to on a random day and present it as our ‘Soundtrack of the Day‘.
My day was yesterday. Other than watching Toronto FC pull out a big win in Los Angeles over the Galaxy yesterday, I was in the car letting my iPod dictate all communication.
Here are a selction of standout tracks that anchored my driving Sunday soundtrack.
Joel Plaskett’s Ashtray Rock might be my favorite release of 2007. I don’t know if a day will come when at least one track from that album doesn’t work it’s way into the rotation on my many long drives. This track is one that rose to the top yesterday.
Plants and Animals are owning my playlist as of late. The Montreal break out band encapsulates pretty much everything I dig about Canadian music right now: drawing from the pool of cool and often obscure influences from breaking era’s, stamp the Canadian laid-back vibe on it, let your own personality and creativity shine through and hit the road and play while enjoying pints with your fans along the way.
Toronto’s Sunparlour Players are traveling their unique sound and vibe around Ontario and Quebec in the coming weeks and months. The band will be back in Toronto on the 19th playing at Sunrise Records. Put on your headphones and give this track a good listen.
Do you remember that scene in Jerry Maguire where Jerry is in the car and is looking for the right song on the radio to belt out and finally finds Free Fallin’? This was me yesterday in the car hitting next on my iPod until I hit this song from Spoon. Great track from a great album.
One of the best tracks for cruising the pathways of Ontario by one of the province’s best artists.

I truly believe that Mike’s mini soundtrack playlist may be small in size, but each juicy little number was clinical in choosing the best mood and vibe to make you wanna pick up a freakin guitar!
