Live Reviews | Bedouin Soundclash, Xavier Rudd…

Updated regularly….shows at the top are the most recent.

Luke Doucet - Starlight (Waterloo) - From the opening track Long Haul Driver it was evident that the band was playing at a very high level - they’ve played 26 shows since December 27th - they sounded great.  More…

Xavier Rudd - Danforth Music Hall - Trying to explain Australian Xavier Rudd to people can be a tough task. He plays a bunch of instruments (including a selections of didgeridoos), he has a soft acoustic vibe, his shows offer incredible and unique lengthy jams and he never wears shoes - a full-time barefooter, claiming not to own or wear footwear.  More…

Zaki Ibrahim - MOD Club - The R&B/Soul/Singer/Songwriter paired her cover story with a gig at the MOD Club last night. It is always something special when a musician creates a fixation in concert not based on stage presence, light shows or gimmicks, but straight talent. Zaki Ibrahim is a compelling artist that reels you in with her stand-out talent.  More…

John Wort Hannam - Cameron House - John played the back room at the Cameron House for an intimate and captivated crowd.  Listening to John play songs such as Wrecking Ball, Infantryman, and Sweet Sweet Rose it is no wonder he is one of Canada’s most promising folk musicians.  More…

Apostle of Hustle - Lee’s Palace -  On this night in the story, Apostle of Hustle took the stage at Lee’s Palace to set a mood and then entertained with spectacular talent, intimacy and passion within that mood. Their music is the show and they communicate it beautifully. They swung through tracks like Chances Are, My Sword Hand’s Anger, Kings Queens, Justine Beckoning.  More…

Kevin Drew - Kool Haus
-  “The opening band was great. Kevin Drew was great and he played for over 2 hours straight, sans encore. I had to leave the show at around 12:10 and they were still on stage. The show was pretty much all of Broken Social Scene, minus the ladies”  More…

Bedouin Soundclash - Cowboys - From the first skin hit by drummer Pat Pengelly, the Miss Saigon/Tropical backdrop exploded with colours at each new beat and soulful bass line. It made you appreciate how far the Queen’s University band has come in their journey thus far - not to mention the fact that it turned a venue of standing-still fans to a bar of people dancing and signing.  More…
