CMW: A hazy night at the Shoe | Tom Fun Orchestra | White Cowbell Oklahoma

This was one of the nights many in the city were looking forward to…including us. The line-up consisted of a diverse mostly Canadian line-up stretching from Coast to Coast.
Vancouver’s own Said the Whale are gaining a loyal following across the Country with their acoustic pop/rock sound.
Toronto’s White Cowbell Oklahoma play some of the wildest […]

Toronto acts to break in 2008 | Who’s Next? | We need your help

Toronto Unplugged needs your help….
We’ve been charged with creating a list of bands/musicians/artists to watch in 2008 - those who we think will break the scene.
We have our personal favorites, but we want to hear from you.  Who are you following as of late?  Who have you seen lately that blew you away?   Is […]

Songs from the Week | The Kooks | Plants and Animals | Listen Here

Holiday Monday…Family Day.
Here are some clips of tracks that had our ear this past week.
The Kooks performed at the MOD Club this past Monday. Straight from (my favorite music site on the web) La Blogotheque’s Take Away Shows is a great clip of The Kooks playing on the street in Paris.

Listening to Plants […]

Live Review: Luke Doucet | Spider Dogs - the Starlight

The Starlight in Waterloo is a great little venue. The acoustics are good, especially on the nights when the crowds are up - it soaks in the vastness of the space. As of late, their lineups have included: Jason Collett, Joel Plaskett, The Dears not too long ago and last night Luke […]

Live Review: Xavier Rudd | Mishka - Danforth Music Hall

Trying to explain Australian Xavier Rudd to people can be a tough task. He plays a bunch of instruments (including a selections of didgeridoos), he has a soft acoustic vibe, his shows offer incredible and unique lengthy jams and he never wears shoes - a full-time barefooter, claiming not to own or […]

This Week Toronto | Xavier Rudd | Vampire Weekend | The Kooks | The Bravery

Decent week this week for shows in Toronto…and it all starts tonight…yes, a Sunday.
Xavier Rudd sings to the sold out crowd at the Danforth Music Hall tonight. Vampire Weekend play a hyped up ’show of the year’ at the Horseshoe Tavern.
The Kooks are at the Mod Club on Monday, The Bravery rock out the […]

Live Review: Zaki Ibrahim - Mod Club

I’ve always rolled my eyes at comparisons. Maybe I’ve never understood them.
When I read NOW Magazines cover story indicating that Toronto’s Zaki Ibrahim could the next Amy Winehouse, I cringed a bit. Why the comparison to a walking circus? Perhaps it would become clear…how’s that for foreshadowing?
The R&B/Soul/Singer/Songwriter paired her cover story […]

Live Review: John Wort Hannam

On a random night last night, a few of us from the brewery decided to stop into the Cameron House to check out some sets.  As part of the Toronto City Roots Series, we were lucky enough to catch John Wort Hannam.
John played the back room at the Cameron House for an intimate and captivated […]

Corin Raymond tonight at the Cameron House

Corin Raymond is taking the stage at the Cameron House tonight at 6pm..
Here’s a bit on Corin…
Corin Raymond is a young man writing old songs- not songs written deliberately in an old style, but songs that sound like they’ve been around a lot longer than Corin himself.
He didn’t grow up playing music or writing songs, […]

What is your track of the day?

CBC Radio 3 is on to something. Their Track of the Day segment is being turned over to their loyal podcast and streaming audience.
Everyone has a track by a local band that has resonated with them. Spread the word. Tell people. That is the heart of the music business. […]
