Handsome Furs @ Lee’s Palace Tonight

Handsome Furs @ Lee’s Palace Tonight

Dark and minimal while noisy and earnest…Handsome Furs will be at Lee’s Palace tonight (Thursday December 20th).  This should be a good venue to catch the Montreal alterna-rock band as the sightlines are good, the acoustics will fit their sound and you’ll be mesmerized with only about 300-400 others.
‘HANDSOME FURS’ @ 10:15 and ‘Guests’ @ 9:00. $12.00 adv @ Tm-Rt-Ss

Szabo & Strongman 3rd Annual Holiday Show

Szabo & Strongman 3rd Annual Holiday Show

I’ve been a big fan of Rob Szabo for quite some time now. I’ve seen him live a good number of times and I always leave his shows inspired by the passion and visible love that Rob has for performing songs and just playing music in general. He is a genuine musician.

Steve Strongman and Rob Szabo will be playing their 3rd Annual Holiday Show this Saturday (Dec 22) at the in Waterloo. They will be performing material from each of their solo albums as well as some Plasticine songs. Special guests will be Revival Dear!

Top 10 Musicians/Bands to bring to your office holiday party

Office holiday parties can be pretty lame, but throw the following into the mix and you’re sure to create a killer shaker: a variety of alcoholic beverages, some incredibly talented musicians/bands, politically charged artists, half a dozen strong and weird personalities, a band no one likes, a few legends and a chainsaw. This is our recipe for the best holiday party ever. How to make it happen?

b5media presents…130 Musicians to bring to a holiday party

Looking for a good ‘ice breaker’ at your lame office holiday party? Throw a shirtless Iggy Pop into the room and see what happens.
Having the same ol’ boring chit chat with your boss? Bring Ozzy Osborne to the party to add some f#%*n’ colour to the dialogue.
Looking to get a romance vibe going? Tell Jack Black and Tenacious D to strum the strings and start into their dirty love song which starts out, “This is a song for the ladies, but fellas, listen closely.”
Any holiday party could be much, much better with the addition of a …read more

Live Review: Apostle of Hustle – Lee’s Palace

Live Review: Apostle of Hustle – Lee’s Palace

These are some of my favorite nights. Got this text message at 10:21 pm on Thursday night,
Apostle of Hustle, Lee’s. Anytime now (10-15min). Come.
Already at the Press Club and not far from Lee’s, me and some mates jumped in a cab and darted to Lee’s Palace for the gig.
We walked in just as second opening act, Skin Tight, Outta Sight, was taking the stage. The Burlesque Revival show, led by dancers Gigi, Pussy and an apprehensive man of religion who eventually stripped down to an ass-less pair of stockings made me realize that the last-minute decision …read more

Venue Review: The Dakota Tavern

A good ol’ fashioned saloon with solid live music, a friendly atmosphere, a warm vibe, a few plaid shirts and loads of Bourbon and good beer can be hard to find in a big city.
Ladies and gentlemen…Toronto presents…The Dakota Tavern.
Where: 249 Ossington Ave. just north of Dundas Street.

Tunes?  Some country, some more country, bluegrass, folk rock, and random nights featuring some of the cities best local musicians – look for Jason Collett’s gigs this month.
Here’s my favorite review of the Dakota…

New Years w The Sadies

New Years w The Sadies

Denim and whiskey are impenetrable forces of cool.  As a band, if you have these, you can get away with a lot.   That’s why alt-country, psychedelic-rock band The Sadies still kick ass despite their girly name. The Sadies will be kicking ass on December 31st for one of the cities coolest New Year’s gigs.
The Sadies at the Horseshoe Tavern.  Very cool.
Tickets are $20 @  Ticketmaster or 416-870-8000
Horseshoe Tavern, 370 Queen Street West, Toronto, ON
